Foot Soldier

26 August, 2008 (01:53) | Sculpture, 3D Model | 2 comments

This was inspired partially by a film I saw a while back called A Very Long Engagement. He is a generic WWI French Soldier. It kind of evolved into a piece for my Reel so it probably doesn’t have the kind of character I originally intended for it due to the time constraints I put on myself, and the rush I was in to finish and move on to a lot of other ideas. ( more of that work to come ) He is the finished character that I spoke about on my timelapse movie below. Watching it now I think it’s pretty boring so I’m planning on doing something a bit more exciting to watch when I get some time.

Edit: These are low res for now until I get some better ones added in a few days.. . .

Fat Man

9 July, 2008 (21:47) | Drawing, Painting | No comments

Haven’t posted in too long for sure. It’s been a rough time. This is unfinished. It’s pretty close though. I started it a long time ago at the Macaroni Grill. Anyone who’s been there with me knows I have no problem drawing on the nice paper table cloth and then taking pieces of it that I like home.  Some work here and there and it will be complete. Working on a bunch of 3d stuff right now. Once I get that off my plate I’ll kill this one off. Probably less than a week before I’ll start posting some of the aforementioned 3d stuff. I’m excited about it though as there should be plenty to post over the next month or so. Click to make the small pic go big.

?uestlove painting… . . . .

24 May, 2008 (21:04) | Drawing, Painting | 2 comments

Many artists have taken a shot at ?uestlove here. This is my take. I meant to post this a long time ago but forgot about it for whatever reason. I’m a big fan of The Roots. I saw them play in Denver right after they released Things Fall Apart and it’s one of the best shows I have seen. Tiny old building with way too many people squeezed together. It was really warm, smokey, and totally diverse. I remember noticing that every kind of person was at the show and that made me feel really good. Common was their guest. It was his birthday and his father who some of you will know from his albums came on stage with a cake and we sang him happy birthday. Then they pushed the cake into his face and he threw it into the crowd. Laughter and smiles all around. I caught a mix CD which got destroyed and I have never been able to replace. ( All Hits, was the name if anyone can help ) The music was wonderful. I tend to like there earlier music a bit more than there new stuff. Nothing stays the same. He’s still “my drummer for life” .

Enjoy the painting. Many more posts to come. Click it to make it big as always. Paul.

Head Timelapse

24 May, 2008 (20:38) | Sculpture, 3D Model | 2 comments

This is a timelapse recording of a model I made recently. It’s part of a larger project that at this point isn’t finished. More on that to come another time. This shows me building up the forms and working out some of the detail around the face. I didn’t give him any hair yet on purpose until I’m ready to take the entire into it’s pose and give it some expression. This starts a little bit slow but picks up after the first couple of minutes. It doesn’t go all the way to completion and I may add a second part in a few days. It been too long since I have had the chance to post but I will now be back to my normal once or twice a week schedule so check in. I did a little introduction at the beginning and the tunes I used are by The Are.

Write comments, send messages, and feel free to share your opinion as usual.

500 +

17 April, 2008 (09:04) | message | 2 comments

The site went well over five hundred views yesterday. I think this number is actually quite remarkable considering a little over a month ago I sent a couple of emails to about thirty five people letting them know it was alive.

Never Erase will expand sometime in the near future. I will be interviewing a couple of artists and posting some animation as well as some more work as it is created. Please keep checking in, and thanks again for leaving comments and sending emails. - Paul

I sometimes snag photos off the internet that I find inspiring for one reason or another. I was going through a bunch of pictures a while back, and one inspired this painting. It’s kind of a caricature but I like how it came out. Comments and crit are welcome as usual.

This is from a drawing I did at a Vegetarian restaurant called The Pneumatic Diner. I really love the place. Only one place like it. This is also literally my first real attempt at painting in photoshop. I did this only a few months ago. I dig it though. Scroll down to see more if you haven’t already. Paul.

Freestyle

25 February, 2008 (23:29) | Painting | 1 comment

So usually I have to look at something in order to draw or paint it. At least to get me started. It’s hard for me to go at a blank page and have any real success. Every now and then it pans out though… and then I get kind of excited. I painted this a couple of months ago and found it again while re-organizing some files. I think he’s got some style which seems to be lacking in a lot of stuff I do these days. I like the way it came out. Maybe I’ll do some more like it in the future. Straight out of my head.

Hand of Paul

25 February, 2008 (23:21) | 3D Model | 1 comment

So I sculpted a hand. Not much else to say about this accept that I just kept looking at my hand and it came out looking like this. Like most of the other models I have been doing lately this isn’t rendered in full. It’s just a few screen shots that I bumped together. What does your hand look like ?

Smiling Guy

25 February, 2008 (23:11) | Drawing, Painting | No comments

I think this is one of the best drawings I have done in a long long time. I really really like it. Originally I planned to paint it up (and I still might) but for now I’m leaving it simple. I also have had trouble in the past giving the people I draw personality beyond the kind of dreary expression they usually have while sitting in bars, restaurants or wherever I may be drawing. I like that I finally got a character to smile. Drawn in minutes not hours at home. Hope you all dig this. Paul.

Statue Models

25 February, 2008 (22:32) | Sculpture, 3D Model | 1 comment

A couple of Statues I modeled a while back. Basic paint job for sure I but I’m somewhat of a minimalist and I liked the challenge of trying to light them for drama without creating an entire scene or having any other props to work with. Inspiration is pretty obvious I think.

Couple of Sculpts

25 February, 2008 (22:05) | Sculpture, 3D Model | No comments

I sculpted both of these while testing some new software. They were built from scratch in Modo and then sculpted to there current form in Zbrush. I really love both apps and use them all the time. The First pic is a friend of mine “As Satan”. The second, I did out of my head but was inspired by a photo I saw of an old statue. Neither are properly rendered, just a couple of screen grabs but I’m sure you will get the idea. Hope you dig em.

Drawings of Self

25 February, 2008 (21:52) | Drawing | 2 comments

I have never been one to draw myself but for whatever reason I had the urge to give it a shot a while back. I don’t know why. I’m not into realism. Or I should say I’m not into going for realism when I draw. But I did these as kind of an exercise. I guess?… to see if I could. Each took about one or two hours I can’t really remember.

Some Recent Drawings

26 August, 2007 (13:07) | Drawing | 3 comments

These are some drawings I did of other artists drawing during a life drawing session that I host once a month. I really like drawing artists while they work. Sometimes more than the model. Hope you dig em.
